Book Review: Clash (Legal Affairs: Cal & Macy #1) by Sawyer Bennett

Cal and Macy. Macy and Cal. When I read the original Legal Affairs serial last year, I never even imagined these two together. But dear God I think they are going to be perfect. Just a short way into their story and I am already completely hooked.

Cal has made some mistakes in his life, but ultimately he is a good guy. And a hot one. He and Macy clash together rather violently. They tolerate each other for their mutual friend Mac's sake, but just barely. It is mostly snide jabs between them. But you know the saying - love - hate - thin lines and all that. Well Cal and Macy burn that line to the damn ground.

We get a little glimpse into Macy's background, just barely a taste to make us curious, and I am anxious to learn all the details of why she is the way she is. From what I can gather so far, it is going to be ugly and painful. Frankly I am a bit scared.

This was a short novella to introduce Cal and Macy's story and while I know some of you out there hate cliffy's, I really think this serial will be worth the wait. I also loved that the majority is told from Cal's point of view with an interesting twist on Macy's point of view. It made it even more fun to read.  I already love these two and I am dying to know what happens next. So much so that I immediately started book 2, Grind.

(Side Note: While re-reading Clash to go over my notes and put the final touches on my review, I got sucked in all over again. Laughed my ass off again. Got all hot and bothered again. I really and truly love Cal and Macy.)

Favorite Quotes
She once told me I was a glorified saint on a pedestal of cracker crumbs. I have no clue what the fuck that meant, but I didn't like it.

Do not engage with Macy.
Don't let her bait you.
Keep your eyes up and off her tits.

Blurb:
Clash (verb): to conflict, disagree.

It might be fair to say that I despise Macy Carrington. She slings insults with precision, not caring about the destruction she leaves in her wake. We clash in a battle of wills every time we’re around each other, and yet… I still fantasize about being lodged deep within her body.

Clash (verb): to come together or collide.

I have never encountered someone that grates me the way Cal Carson does. His pompous, arrogant demeanor. A holier-than-thou attitude. Any interaction with “Saint Cal” ends in a verbal clash of epic proportions, and yet… there’s no one I’d rather have in my bed than him.

Clash (noun): a battle, fight or skirmish.

Her breathy moans mingle with the sound of our flesh coming together, clashing with the silence that surrounds us, dispelling any notions I once had about Macy Carrington.

Maybe I can break down her walls if we can call a truce to this battle.

He whispers filthy words in my ear, provoking feelings I never knew were possible. The burning desire in his touch clashes with everything I once believed about Cal Carson.

Maybe he can be the balm I need to soothe my broken soul, if only temporarily.

Clash is the first book in this Legal Affairs trilogy and is releasing on 4/7/15. Grind will be released on 4/21/15 and Yield will be released on 5/5/15.

  1. The best couples are the ones that come to love each other after hating each other's guts :D At least in books... This is the first I'm hearing of this author, but I'm loving the sound of it! I may need to read the original book first, though.
