These two authors have come together to write a truly powerful story that not only engages your heart but your mind as well. (And, ahem, other body parts). It makes you think about the world around us, the hate that sadly still consumes the world, and what the heck are we going to do about it? As much as I wish it wasn't so, racism and corruption are very much a part of our society. Hate is an ugly, multifaceted stone with so many sides at war with each other. It's not just black vs. white here in Harmony Falls, but also good cops vs. bad cops; right vs. wrong and so on... and I was truly impressed how these authors managed to equally and honestly show all sides.
Now despite the heart wrenching events that take place in the story, and brace yourselves, some of them are hard to read, there is also a beautiful opportunity for love. The fact that Grayson and Olivia could find love amidst all the pain and chaos makes it that much sweeter for me. Olivia can't un-live what happened to her and Grayson can't ever un-see it, but together they can find the truth and in time heal and move on. I loved Grayson and his protectiveness and that he could turn on the dirty talk when the time called for it.
This was the prefect balance of serious and sexy and a huge winner for these two authors. While I have devoured everything else that K. Langston has written, this is my first time reading anything by K.C. Lynn and I can assure you I will be seeking out some of her stuff in the near future. Well done ladies! xo
“You’re fucking crazy, Olivia, if you think you go unnoticed.”
“I’ll always save you, even if there is nothing to save. I’ll always be there.”
“You feel so fucking good wrapped around my fingers, baby. I can feel how much you want me.”
“Goddamn, you look sexy as fuck riding me.”
“I’m yours, Liv. Yours. I could never belong to anyone else. And you’re mine, baby. From this perfect body, all the way down to your beautiful fucking soul. Mine.”
**I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
His gaze softens as he cups the side of my neck. “Jesus, you should never feel insecure. You’re fucking beautiful, Liv, bruises or not. Nothing in the world could ever change that.”
I watch him carefully, his sincerity tearing through my defenses. “You really mean that, don’t you?”
He rears back, the skin between his brows bunching together in deep valleys of confusion. “Of course I do. How could you not know that?”
I shrug. “I don’t know. I guess it’s…” I pause for a moment before deciding to bare it all. “It’s hard for me to believe you still think I’m beautiful despite finding me the way you did.”
Understanding dawns and he quickly shakes his head. “No, not ever. That didn’t change the way I look at you. Yes, it fucking gutted me to see you that way, but not once did I think any less of you.” He pulls me closer while his determined gaze bores into mine. His jaw flexes, the rhythm of his chest growing heavier. “It should have never happened. Nothing so hateful should have ever touched something so beautiful. But make no mistake, Liv, when I look at you, I don’t see the girl I found that day, I see the girl who survived it all. You’re fucking beautiful, inside and out, nothing or no one will ever change that.”
My breath hitches as tears blur my eyes, his words healing my wounded soul. “You make me feel beautiful,” I choke out softly.
“Good, baby, because you are, every inch of you, and don’t ever fucking forget it.” He closes the small space between our mouths, his lips claiming mine in a heated caress as his tongue sweeps in.
