Book Review: Gabriel's Redemption (Gabriel’s Inferno #3) by Sylvain Reynard

Gabriel's Inferno and Gabriel's Rapture were the first books I read after completing the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy and I loved them. I mean 5 star, head over heals in love with them and Professor Emerson! When I heard that there was going to be a third book, I was of course excited. That being said, I didn't love Gabriel's Redemption. I certainly liked it, but not how i did the first two books.

The book starts 6 months after Julia and Gabriel are married. He is a professor at Boston University and she is a graduate student at Harvard. Julia is under a lost of pressure and stress in her program and couple that with being newlyweds and discovering how to live with one another and there is bit of conflict between the two. Gabriel wants what he wants when he wants it and he has to learn that this is not how a marriage works. He wants a baby but the thought of children add another level of stress to Julia. While she does want a baby some day, she understandably wants to wait till she is finished with school. This topic is a reoccurring issue throughout the book but if they would just truly listen to each other, it wouldn't need to be.

Both Gabriel and Julia have very similar self worth issues to work on and they try to help each other through that. It was also really good to see a softer side to Gabriel. He still has a tendency to to lose his temper and go all caveman but you can see that he is really trying to work on that.
We also get a glimpse into some of the side characters from the series like Simon and Natalie and Paul to name a few. While it was nice to see what was going on there and get some closure on them, I felt that changes from these characters back to Julia and Gabriel were a bit abrupt. I don't feel like they added much to the story and might have been a bit unnecessary. I did, however, enjoy some of the flashbacks we got into Gabriel's past. Those I thought helped shed some light on the man he is now and how he got there.

Overall while I enjoyed catching up with the Emersons to see how married life was treating them and I absolutely loved their newlywed sex life, I couldn't help but be just a little disappointed with the final book in this trilogy. The first two books were so amazing and moving and this just did not measure up to them for me. I am glad I read it and know how their happily ever after goes and I will definitely miss both Julia and Gabriel.

About the Author
I'm interested in the way literature can help us explore aspects of the human condition - particularly suffering, sex, love, faith, and redemption. My favourite stories are those in which a character takes a journey, either a physical journey to a new and exciting place, or a personal journey in which he or she learns something about himself/herself.

I'm also interested in how aesthetic elements such as art, architecture, and music can be used to tell a story or to illuminate the traits of a particular character. In my writing, I combine all of these elements with the themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the transformative power of goodness.

I try to use my platform as an author to raise awareness about the following charities: Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep Foundation, WorldVision, Alex's Lemonade Stand, and Covenant House. For more information, see my Twitter account.
