Book Review: Because You're Mine (Mine #1) by K. Langston

Madison (Maddie) Waters had her life all planned out in Boston. She already had a good job at a law firm and she would be graduating from law school in just a few months. OK, so maybe sleeping with her boss wasn't part of her grand plan. Oops. Then a family emergency has her heading back home to Mississippi. She will spend a few days there to make sure that her dad is OK and then head back to Boston. She didn't expect a country boy to change everything.

After getting the hell out of Texas five years ago, Holden Brooks has built a nice life for himself in this small country town. Even though he has plenty of money, he keeps himself busy working at his cousin Archer's bar or helping out around the Waters farm. He needs the constant activity to keep himself on this path. The minute Maddie walks out the door and into his life, he is all in. Maddie tries to resist the pull Holden has on her, but there are only so many times you can turn down a sexy country boy before you give in.

When their insta-lust quickly becomes insta-love, Maddie worries how they can move forward with her leaving town soon. Can she give up the life she has in Boston in order to be with Holden? Or will she go running scared back to what she thinks she wants?

I have been so excited to read this book and tore into it as soon as the ARC hit my inbox last week. It had been a while since I read a book with a yummy country boy, and Holden did not disappoint. He knows he wants Maddie and he isn't going to stop until he has her. His persistence and confidence are sexy as hell.

Oh, there was no doubt about it, I wanted to fuck her. I wanted to fuck her so bad I couldn't sit properly. I wanted to fuck her, make sweet love to her, do very bad things to her. It was crazy fucking beautiful - the need I had for this woman.

Maddie is strong and stubborn, refusing to believe that what they have together is real or can work long term. Just as he's gotten through to her, a misunderstanding shatters everything that they had quickly built. Why is there always some psycho bitch lurking around just waiting to screw things up? As much as I would have loved to punch said psycho bitch, I was actually more aggravated with Maddie for not even given Holden a chance to tell her what happened. Will she wake up and realize she may be throwing away the best thing that happened to her?

This was a great debut novel from K. Langston. It was sexy and a little sweet and had everything that I enjoy in a romance novel. At the end we get a glimpse of the first chapter in book 2, which will be Archer's and Katherine's story. And holy hell that chapter is intense and hot! I'm really looking forward to it.

Excerpt - From Holden's POV

For the next four hours I was focused and alert. The crowd was getting thick but it was nothing I couldn’t handle. I tried not to think about her, only to wonder why I wasn’t thinking about her, and then in turn leading me to think about her. It was a pleasant mind fuck to say the least. The woman was literally making me crazy. Getting sucked into my own head, I never had a chance to prepare myself for what happened next.
      Maddie walked into Archer’s.
      I take that back.
Maddie floated into Archer’s. It felt like the air had been sucked out of the whole goddamn bar and my knees wobbled due to the lack of oxygen traveling to my brain.
      Yep, they fucking wobbled.
She walked towards the bar slowly with ease and grace, looking perfectly confident and impossibly fucking beautiful. It was difficult to pull my eyes away from her. My hands itched to know if her legs were as soft as the cotton dress she wore. The one that swished across her creamy thigh with every step she took.
      Sweet fucking hell…it swished.
Madison Waters could very well be described as every country boy’s dream. Well, this country boy anyway. Every swinging dick in her path had their eyes on her. My pulse quickened and my teeth felt like they could crush granite as jealousy washed over me. If one of them even thought about touching her, I’d lose my fucking shit. The overwhelming need to prevent that from happening had my feet moving in her direction.
Hoisting her sweet ass up onto the empty bar stool, she crossed her delicate arms in front of her. Merging with a shadow on a nearby wall, I stood back and observed as she rifled through her small purse. Then she studied her phone, oblivious to the predators lurking nearby. As I knew it would, it didn’t take long before the first wolf descended.
