Rhys Bowen loves books and antiquities and prides himself on his expertise, like his father before him. When Margery walks in with the long sought after de Valery text, he finds it hard to contain his excitement. Excitement over both the book and the girl. This book holds some value for sure, but not as much value as the supposed treasure it could potentially lead him to. Little does he know how much danger searching for it will get them both into.
God I love a good historical romance and Darcy Burke writes some of the best ones out there! When one of her books is released, you can be certain I clear my schedule and make time to read it. Her Secrets & Scandals series is one of my all time favorite historical romance series and I could not wait for The de Valery Code.
The minute I started reading this I was completely enthralled by the characters as well as the adventurous storyline. Margery is strong willed and independent with no desire to ever marry. Her and her aunts need that treasure so she is not forced into marriage. I loved her spirit for adventure. However she does not trust easily, especially not her tall, dark and handsome academic companion.
I absolutely, 1000% fell in love with Rhys and he very well may be my favorite of Darcy Burke's heroes. First of all, his name is just sexy. I can just imagine whispering it over and over again. "Rhys...."
From the moment he was introduced, I needed more of him. Known to be somewhat emotionless, I thoroughly enjoyed watching Margery bring out his passionate side. From the teasing and bickering and finally to the bedroom, these two were ignitable.
This was such a well rounded book that gave me a little bit of everything. There was adventure and mystery laced with a healthy dose of heat in this novel, and to say that I loved it is an understatement.
|He stared at her nude body, disbelieving. The gentleman in him demanded he cover her back up and send her away. The man in him told the gentleman to shut the hell up. He decided to listen to the man.|
|"Please, what? Remember, I like words. Written, spoken, screamed."|
