Book Review: Make it a Double (Last Call #2) by Sawyer Bennett

When a new Sawyer Bennett book hits my Kindle, you can pretty much count on me being useless until I'm done reading it. The cycle goes something like this:
  1. ARC arrives, start reading immediately.
  2. Read...Read...Read...Done!
  3. Squeal with delight at another fab story.
  4. Weep because I have to wait for the next book
Every. Damn. Time. And I love it.

So...Brody Markham. He was kind of a jerk in Last Call. I mean I know he's been through a lot of crap, but his outburst towards Alyssa shocked me. What was his deal? Why would he judge her like that? I desperately wanted to know these answers and I desperately wanted to see Alyssa break down his walls. After 5 years in prison, Brody is having a hard time reentering society. Hell, just reentering his family. And he certainly doesn't want to be around rich, entitled bitches like Alyssa. Except, that isn't Alyssa at all. Sure she has lots of money and her mother certainly fits that description, but not Alyssa. She's taken a good chunk of her money and used it for the town's animal shelter. She works hard, long hours with little help because she truly loves what she does.

Brody quickly sees how wrong he was about Alyssa. I loved that he was man enough to apologize to her and admit he made a mistake with that snap judgement.  Thankfully that issue was resolved rather quickly so that we could focus on other issues like the sexual tension between these two. And of course once the two of them finally reach the point where they can't keep their hands to themselves, things get super hot.

It takes Alyssa finding out a secret for his walls to finally start cracking. And let me tell you that secret took me by surprise. I figured there was more to his story, but this never crossed my mind. After this moment, we immediately start to see a change in Brody. As each day passes he seems to smile a little bit bigger and laugh a little bit louder and god it was amazing to see his transformation. The road to happiness and redemption for Alyssa and Brody isn't exactly easy and there is some darkness along the way, but it was a journey that I loved.

Not surprisingly, I devoured this book in just a few hours. Brody and Alyssa's love story is heartwarming and sexy and perfect. Thank you Sawyer for yet another amazing book!

And I'm just saying, every woman should have a Brody or Hunter at home waiting for them in bed. Or both. Yeah, definitely both.

**I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Brody Markham has endured a nightmare, spending the last five years in prison and losing everything that was dear to him. Now he’s back home, trying to survive in a world he doesn’t recognize anymore. While his family and friends desperately try to reach through to him, he shelters himself further and further away from their love.

Alyssa Myers has worked her entire life to distance herself from the luxurious and privileged lifestyle in which she was raised. Running her non-profit agency, The Haven, she is content to spend her days helping abused animals find sanctuary, which fulfills her in a way that money just can’t buy.

Maybe it’s that she recognizes in Brody some of the same characteristics she sees in her homeless wards, but Alyssa is powerless to stop her personal quest to make Brody whole again.

While Brody struggles to surface from the darkness, Alyssa tries to protect her heart in case he’s not willing to accept the light that she offers him.
