Both Julia and Clay are tainted by their past relationships with each of their exes lying to them throughout their relationships. Unfortunately for Julia, her ex also left her indebted to some unsavory people. She is paying it off slowly but surely but is lying to everyone around her in order to keep them safe. And that now includes Clay too. He can't stand lies and Julia's life is full of them. Between living on opposite coasts and the deceit, how could they possibly make anything work long term?
It is no surprise that the sex in this book is off the charts hot. Sometimes it is dirty and rough and other times it is tender. Mix in a little bondage and dominance and holy hell! You should probably keep some extra panties nearby when reading this.
|"I'm crazy about you, but right now I'm going to fuck you like I hate you. I need to fuck you angrily but don't forget this, I'm crazy for you."|
It also is a bit frustrating because you want to scream at Julia "just tell him the truth, dammit!" Because let's just face it, keeping secrets/lying never ends well. Ever. But she can't bring herself to do it. Now I really like Julia as a female lead because she is strong willed and sexy but I hate her for not being able to do this. Clay has trusted a woman blindly before and it cost him - can he risk making another mistake for Julia?
Night After Night ends with a cliffy (sorry) that left me begging for the next book. Thankfully, there is just a one month wait for the final book, After This Night, which releases May 12, 2014.
Fun side note: If you have read some of Lauren's previous work you'll notice that there are crossover characters from both of her other series appearing here. It was fun seeing McKenna, Chris and Davis again from the Caught Up In Love series. Then there is Michele, who we know as Trey's shrink in the No Regrets series. I liked her well enough in that series as a supporting character, but she plays a bigger part in this series and let me just say that I hate her right now. In fact I am pretty sure I told Lauren that I wanted to punch Michele in a certain part of her anatomy. You'll just have to read the book to find out why.
