Book Review: Deeper by Blue Ashcroft

Rain and Knight have both experienced tragic losses in their young lives. For 19 year old Rain, that loss has her making extreme promises to herself and traveling halfway across the country to escape the pain. For Knight, 22, his loss has kept him from giving his heart to another girl.

There are things I really enjoyed about this book and other aspects that were difficult for me. My naughty side thoroughly enjoyed the author's description of Knight's sexy swimmers body. My mind immediately went to the Summer Olympics with all those delicious swimmers on display. There were also some steamy scenes that had me yearning for more. I did like Knight a lot, despite his crazy over protectiveness. I understood why he was the way he was. And I loved that after initially fighting his attraction to Rain, he started to embrace it.

“Her eyes open and shine up at me, then close again as her head tilts back in pleasure. It’s some kind of heaven for me, some kind of home, and it’s been so long. I hold her legs around me and smooth my hands along her back. I need more proof that she’s really here with me. Cleansing me. Healing me. Rain.”

Then there was Rain. I didn't dislike her, I just couldn't connect with her. She was the part of the book that was hard for me. She has set unrealistic rules for herself and while I understand that her tragedy shook her, to put those types of boundaries on herself I just could not comprehend.

Overall I thought this was a good debut novel for author Blue Ashcroft that had the potential to be really good. The setting of the water park was unique and interesting and there was good character development. It just needed a little something more.

Book Description: Rain Wilson isn’t ever going to love again.

It’s a promise she made the day her boyfriend died in a water park accident, one she still blames herself for. Now she’s a senior lifeguard in a new town with a new pool and she’s just going to keep her head down and everyone safe.

Until a mysterious guy follows her into the waves at the pre-season bonfire and kisses her senseless. It’s just one mistake, and Rain is determined to put it behind her, until the dark haired, blue eyed hottie turns out to be her new co-supervisor Knight Mcallister.

Knight is hot, tatted, and carrying baggage of his own. He’s not happy about having Rain for a co-supervisor, and he’s even less happy about his attraction to her.

But between lifeguard drama, hot underwater kisses, and a growing attraction between them that can’t be stopped, Knight and Rain are being pulled deeper into their pasts, and realizing that sometimes too much broken can make a relationship impossible.

Then again sometimes it’s the broken parts of us that fit together best.
