Book Review: Losing Hope (Hopeless #2) by Colleen Hoover

Wow. Just. Wow. This has to be one of the best sequels I have ever read. Colleen Hoover writes some very intense, emotion filled books and Hopeless (book 1) was amazing. So I honestly did not think it could get any better. Boy, was I wrong. Although I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised since her entire Slammed series was awesome.

So Losing Hope is pretty much the retelling of Hopeless but from Dean Holder's point of view. It starts off about a year before Dean and Sky met and we learn about what happened to his sister Leslie plus the events leading up to him being sent away for a year. Although we already know the plot and what happens with these teenagers, that doesn't make it any less emotional. If possible, I think it is even more so. Reading the events through Dean's eyes makes you realize just how lost and hurt he is after losing the two most important people in his life. The letters he continues to write to his deceased sister broke my heart. And his love for Sky/Hope is just... I don't know how to describe it. It's just special.

"I know I told her that she’s never really been kissed before, but until this moment I had no idea that I had never really been kissed before. Not like this. Every kiss, every movement, every moan, every touch of her hand against my skin. She’s my saving grace. My Hope. And I’m never walking away from her again."

Sigh. I love Dean. He is just the sweetest most caring boy and I loved getting his perspective on everything. The bottom line: this book floored me. I cried all over again for their pain. For all they already suffered. And then I cried happy tears because they have each other again. Please note that this is not a stand alone novel, you should definitely read Hopeless first.

  1. The cover of this book intrigues me! But emotion-filled books make me cry all over the place which in turn makes my husband an unhappy man. I might try to read it, though!
