Book Review: Unlawful Justice by K.C. Lynn & K. Langston #Giveaway

The town of Harmony Falls, Texas has recently been riddled with crime. The once peaceful town is now in full blown chaos as things have escalated into deaths and disgusting acts of vengeance. Hate fill the streets and homes of this small town, wreaking havoc with no end in sight. Despite it all, is it possible for two souls at the center of it to find love? Just maybe peace, love and truth will prevail...

So this is one of those books that I needed to take a day (or five) off after reading it before I could sit down and attempt to write a review. Even now, almost a week later, I'm not sure my thoughts will be very coherent or even come close to doing this novel justice, but I'll try.

These two authors have come together to write a truly powerful story that not only engages your heart but your mind as well. (And, ahem, other body parts). It makes you think about the world around us, the hate that sadly still consumes the world, and what the heck are we going to do about it? As much as I wish it wasn't so, racism and corruption are very much a part of our society. Hate is an ugly, multifaceted stone with so many sides at war with each other. It's not just black vs. white here in Harmony Falls, but also good cops vs. bad cops; right vs. wrong and so on... and I was truly impressed how these authors managed to equally and honestly show all sides.

Book Review: Forever You're Mine (MINE #4) by K. Langston

Oh Cannon. Sexy, beautiful, damaged Cannon. I've been anxiously awaiting his arrival for what seems like forever, and now that he is finally here I am both elated and depressed. Thrilled to be able to read his story but sad because now I have nothing to look forward to. Sigh.

Former Navy SEAL Cannon Jacobs has demons that keep him distant from everyone. He uses women to numb the pain. Lots of women. But when the sweet blonde refuses his advances, they vow to be friends instead. Cora Daniels doesn't have the best family background. Her junkie mom has never shown her any love, but she refuses to end up like her. She cherishes her friendship with Cannon, but she'd be lying if she said she didn't want him. Can they cross the line from friends to lovers without losing what they have?

God I loved this story. Life might have thrown a lot of shit at Cora, t she is strong and determined to persevere. She loves Cannon but is patient with him and getting him to finally open up. Smart girl. Cannon is understandably broken, but maybe it is time he fix himself up. He has never wanted more than sex from a woman, but he wants everything from Cora. I absolutely loved how dedicated he was to her and making them work. I mean he is sexy enough already, but that true and utter devotion to his girl just takes him over the damn top.

Book Review: When You're Mine (MINE #3) by K. Langston

Tabitha refuses to break girl code and succumb to her all consuming desire for Barrett, her best friend's ex. But really, how long can a girl hold out when a sexy, determined lawyer is seducing her? I've got to give her credit for holding out a lot longer than I would have. There is so much more to Tabitha that what the surface glimpses have showed us. She hides so much pain and fear behind her cool facade. Even without the Maddie issue, she has secrets that will ultimately keep her and Barrett apart. Secrets that she is not willing to disclose. My heart broke for this girl on so many levels.

After Because You're Mine, I didn't care much for Barrett. I felt he was a womanizing prick who liked to sleep with his staff. A bit presumptuous of me since we barely got to know him? Sure. But I was partially right since he does in fact have a penchant for screwing interns. The rest I couldn't have been more wrong about. The fact is he is just so overly devoted to his work that he doesn't have time for relationships. And he is OK with that. He has never felt like he was missing anything, Until Tabitha. What I loved about Barrett was that once he found something he wanted, his devotions changed. Claiming Tabitha became his new number one priority. He was thoughtful and determined and sexy as hell. He wants her, wants more with her, and nothing is going to stop him until he makes her his.

Book Review: Until You're Mine (Mine #2) by K. Langston

I have been itching to get my hands on this book ever since author K. Langston first introduced Archer and Katy to us in her debut novel Because You're Mine.  That is six whole months of building up in my head how amazing Archer was going to be, and thanks to K. and her little teasers, six months of fantasizing about how hot the sex was going to be. And Until You're Mine proved to be everything I knew it would be! I've been dying to sink my teeth into Archer Brooks all this time, and damn was he tasty and worth the wait!

Katy and Archer both have seriously battered hearts. Her two previous boyfriends left her broken and weary to ever give her heart to someone again. Then there is Archer's ex who is the queen mega bitch from hell. It is no wonder he doesn't want to love ever again. I have to give Katy a ton of credit because despite being hurt more than once, she basically says "fuck it" and throws her heart 100% in the ring with Archer. She knows that with her love he can open up again and she is determined to prove that to him. I also love that despite the fact that she has two disapproving jerks for parents, she is not afraid to be herself.

Then, of course, there is Archer. There are so many things that I love about this man, but the best is his deliciously filthy mouth. The man drops more f-bombs than I can count and dammit if i don't love that. But the sexy things he says to Katy? Excuse me while I melt into a puddle on the floor. What's that? You need some examples? Well...if you insist...

Book Review: Because You're Mine (Mine #1) by K. Langston

Madison (Maddie) Waters had her life all planned out in Boston. She already had a good job at a law firm and she would be graduating from law school in just a few months. OK, so maybe sleeping with her boss wasn't part of her grand plan. Oops. Then a family emergency has her heading back home to Mississippi. She will spend a few days there to make sure that her dad is OK and then head back to Boston. She didn't expect a country boy to change everything.

After getting the hell out of Texas five years ago, Holden Brooks has built a nice life for himself in this small country town. Even though he has plenty of money, he keeps himself busy working at his cousin Archer's bar or helping out around the Waters farm. He needs the constant activity to keep himself on this path. The minute Maddie walks out the door and into his life, he is all in. Maddie tries to resist the pull Holden has on her, but there are only so many times you can turn down a sexy country boy before you give in.

When their insta-lust quickly becomes insta-love, Maddie worries how they can move forward with her leaving town soon. Can she give up the life she has in Boston in order to be with Holden? Or will she go running scared back to what she thinks she wants?
