Book Review: Hawke (Cold Fury Hockey #5) by Sawyer Bennett

Hawke and Vale have a deep history. They spent four years together and crazy in lover before it all came screeching to a halt. Seven years later, Hawke is now an NHL superstar and Vale is the new assistant trainer for his team, the Carolina Cold Fury. He thought he got over what happened ages ago, until he sees her again and is surprised by the surge of emotions he feels. He is still extremely angry at Vale but there is something else hiding there beneath the anger. There is no way he will acknowledge that feeling or admit what it is to himself. Can they get the closure and finally maybe give things another go or is there too much hurt ro ever get past?

The boys of the Carolina Cold Fury are back! Squeeee! I love me some Sawyer Bennett hockey smut! I've enjoyed this series and have been looking forward to reading about new Cold Fury teammate Hawke. The prologue really hits you right in the chest and hooks you and sets up what you know off the bat won't be an easy love story. But I love second chance romances  and was eager to see how this played out.

I liked Vale despite the huge mistakes she made in the past. While I might not agree with her choices, I do get it. Hawke made some mistakes too and when you put all of it together its a colossal case of miscommunication. Seven years later I think Vale has grown leaps and bounds however Hawke really hasn't grown up at all. So I had some issues with him cause he really was kind of a jerl. Still partying hard and getting stupid drunk but it was that stubborn pride that really made me want to punch him. Even when truths come out he holds onto his anger and uses it as a shield and even a weapon, hurtling right at Vale. Not cool. So it left a bitter taste in my mouth for him.

Book Review: Wicked Lust (Wicked Horse #2) by Sawyer Bennett

What's hotter than a sexy alpha cowboy that fulfills sexual fantasies? The answer you're looking for is nothing. Nothing is fucking hotter than that. Welcome back to The Wicked Horse!

When Sawyer first introduced Cain at the end of book one, I nearly exploded and I've been dying to read his story ever since. Cain is the head of security at The Wicked Horse as well as a fantasy maker for the dirtier side of the business. And a damn good one. He has no desire to be in a relationship again and this allows him to indulge in endless sex while working towards a good bonus.

Sloane is a reporter here only to sniff out a scandalous story on the supposed sex club. However, she did not plan on Cain. At first she thought to use their attraction to get the information she needs for the story. She soon realizes he is someone special and using him is the last thing she wants to do. But what choice does she have? Both are holding back secrets and it is only a matter of time before the truth is out and everything crumbles.

Love: Uncivilized (Uncivilized #1.5) by Sawyer Bennett

Eight years after Zach and Moira fell in love, now they are married with two young children. While their love is still going strong, they are struggling with the mundane and stress that seem to have taken over. Can they find a way to work through their issues and have a happy Christmas?

I think this short read is something that any married couple with kids can relate to. You sometimes just get to a point where your relationship with your spouse takes a back seat to the kids and maybe even work. It's not right, but unfortunately it's what happens.

Moira is home with her two kiddos while Zach works crazy long hours. His time away is starting to take a toll on his family, especially with Moira reentering the workforce. Thankfully their sex life hasn't tamed at all and Zach still can be wild animal in bed.  But God I was so frustrated with both of them. With Zach for knowing his wife was unhappy but choosing to ignore it and then with Moira for not opening her damn mouth and discussing the issues. So yeah, frustrating. But very real.

As usual, Sawyer's writing is engaging, fun and damn hot and I really enjoyed this quick holiday novella. I highly recommend reading Uncivilized first though this can be read as a stand alone.

Book Review: Friction (Legal Affairs) by Sawyer Bennett

It doesn't matter how many books I read by Sawyer Bennett, I love every damn one. Her Legal Affairs books are some of my top favorites by her, probably because they are some of her dirtiest, and Friction is  right up there with the rest.

Leary and Reeve are opposing counsels on an upcoming medical malpractice case and they are totally hot for each other. The chemistry between them is combustible and I frickin loved how they teased and pushes one another. Especially in public. Gah! They agree to keep the case out of the relationship, but when Reeve has to choose between protecting his career or the sassy woman he's falling for, his decision could ruin it all.

Book Review: Ryker (Cold Fury Hockey #4) by Sawyer Bennett

Ryker Evans is the hottest goalie in the league right now; he's settled into single fatherhood with his two girls and life is pretty darn good. When the team announced that Grayson Brannon, daughter of the owner, is taking over as general manager, he's the only team member not phased by the change. He doesn't care if she's a woman, a gorgeous woman at that. He's going to give her a fair chance and see what she can do. She did, after all, give him his chance on the Cold Fury.

Gray knows that being the first female GM in hockey is going to be a battle, but she also knows she is the perfect woman for this job. She expects the the criticism, the naysayers and yes even the sexism. What's she didn't expect though was to fall for her star goalie.

When the attraction becomes too much to ignore and they finally give in, they are forced to keep it from the world. Are they strong enough to survive the pressures of a secret relationship? And if their cover is blown, will it put a quick end to the career Gray has worked so hard for?

Book Review: Wicked Fall (The Wicked Horse #1) by Sawyer Bennett #Giveaway

Holy. Frickin. Hell. I'm not sure exactly where to start here but let me say that "wicked" is a very appropriate title for this book. {fans self}

If you read Shaken, Not Stirred from Sawyer's Last Call series, we met Woolf very briefly there. (It is absolutely not required to read first, but I highly recommend that series). Ever since that first glimpse of Woolf, I have been anxious for this book ever since. The author's promise that it was gonna be a dirty one didn't make waiting any easier.

After the passing of his father, Woolf is now the head of his family's multi-million dollar ranching business in Wyoming. While he does love the ranch, it is not the only thing he loves. He also loves sex. Lots and lots of sex with lots and lots of women. Which is why he opened The Wicked Horse with his best friend Bridger, a popular country bar with an exclusive sex club out back. His life was filled with plenty of random sex and going just as he wanted it until Callie walked into his bar.

Book Review: Zack (Cold Fury Hockey #3) by Sawyer Bennett

Several months after the car accident that took the life of his long-time girlfriend and ended his hockey season early, Zack's physical wounds have all healed. Mentally, however, he is still struggling. Struggling with the loss of the mother of his child and struggling with the guilt. Guilt not just for her death, but so much more. With the next season just a few weeks away, Zack is in need of full-time help with his son Ben. Which is why he lets his sister hire a live-in nanny: Kate. Kate with her too big clothes and over the top cheerfulness. He hasn't felt anything for anyone in months, why does he have to start feeling again now for his son's nanny?

Kate might not have grown up with much but she doesn't let her lack of money get her down. Or anything else really. She always has a smile on her face. She's been working her way through school and this new nanny job is perfect for her. When Kate starts working for crabby and sinfully hot Zack, she makes it her mission to make him laugh and cheer up. Except developing feelings for her boss wasn't part of the plan.

This book and all the feels. Sigh. Zack is definitely my favorite of the Cold Fury Hockey series thus far. I knew going in that it was going to be emotional and heart breaking for me at times, which it absolutely was. Zack is emotionally having a really hard time following Gina's death and it is painful to watch (read). It also causes him to be a giant douche to Kate at times, making me itch to punch him in the throat. It is easy to forgive him though, most of the time.

Book Review: Yield (Legal Affairs: Cal & Macy #3) by Sawyer Bennett #Giveaway

So after the super colossal cliffy in Grind, Yield picks up right where we left off. Things had been going well for Cal and Macy, but this recent development has Macy pulling back. Can Cal convince her that he will stay by her side, no matter what is going down?

In this third and final installment of Cal and Macy's story, things get pretty intense. While these two continue to burn up the sheets, there is so much more going on. Will Macy finally tell Cal her secrets? Will she seek justice for those that have wronged her? Will she revert to her old ways? WHAT WILL SHE DO? Gah! I feel like I was constantly holding my breath, waiting to see what would happen next.

And you know that secret that has been eluded too but we haven't been made privy to yet? I knew it would be painful but I didn't think it would gut me so. And infuriate me. I thought I had it figured out, but the added twist had me wanting to commit murder. Of course through it all, Cal was amazing. He was so patient with Macy when she needed it and I just love him. I flippin loved this series so hard and this was the perfect ending for Cal and Macy. Now who's next?

Book Review: Grind (Legal Affairs: Cal & Macy #2) by Sawyer Bennett #Giveaway

Some times you read an ARC and you think "Wow, that was pretty good. People should read it." And then other times you finish reading and you think "OMFG! That was amazing! Everyone needs to read this! Why oh why isn't it out yet so the world can know it's awesomeness!?!" That is what happened when I read Grind. Lucky for you all it is out now so you don't have to wait and trust me, you want to read this series. This book took two of my favorite things: 1. Sawyer Bennett and 2. a crazy hot sexual fantasy and put them together so perfectly. I mean I literally had to stop at the end of this particular scene and walk away from my Kindle to cool down. So good.

There are many great things going on in this second installment of Cal and Macy's story, but the only thing my brain can focus on is the hottest Sawyer Bennett sex scene ever. Wow, just wow. But in all honesty, it isn't just the sexy times that makes me love this book, but watching these two slowly growing closer. They make me laugh and but also the pain that Macy is clearly struggling with chokes me. It is palpable and I keep wondering in my mind what exactly it is that she went though.

Then there is Cal who is just amazing. Loyal, sweet and even a bit kinky - seriously the perfect package. I mean, he is no Matt Fucking Connover, but damn is he close.

We are left on the brink of something huge and I can't wait to see what happens next! I absolutely love this series. L.O.V.E.

Book Review: Clash (Legal Affairs: Cal & Macy #1) by Sawyer Bennett

Cal and Macy. Macy and Cal. When I read the original Legal Affairs serial last year, I never even imagined these two together. But dear God I think they are going to be perfect. Just a short way into their story and I am already completely hooked.

Cal has made some mistakes in his life, but ultimately he is a good guy. And a hot one. He and Macy clash together rather violently. They tolerate each other for their mutual friend Mac's sake, but just barely. It is mostly snide jabs between them. But you know the saying - love - hate - thin lines and all that. Well Cal and Macy burn that line to the damn ground.

We get a little glimpse into Macy's background, just barely a taste to make us curious, and I am anxious to learn all the details of why she is the way she is. From what I can gather so far, it is going to be ugly and painful. Frankly I am a bit scared.

Book Review Night Shift Anthology #LoveIsLove

I was super excited about this anthology because of the kick ass lineup of authors in it. I've enjoyed books from 5 out of 6 of them. Eden Butler is the one who is new to me and I'm glad I got a chance to read something from her, more on that later. I loved the idea that while all stories are separate from each other, they all take place in New Orleans and more specifically each have a connection to Tulane Medical Center in NOLA. Overall I enjoyed this anthology and it was a quick weekend read. Scroll down for comments and ratings on each individual story.

Marianna's Overall Rating:

**I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Book Review: Shaken, Not Stirred (Last Call #5) by Sawyer Bennett

Casey Markham is a well known man eater. She devours them for a few nights of fun, then spits them out before they can get attached to her. Tenn Jennings is traveling through town on the way to visit his daughter and he is immediately drawn to the beautiful Casey. He quickly realizes that he wants more than one night, but one night is all that Casey is willing to give. Can she move beyond her past and her fears to go after something meaningful?

Since this series started last year with On the Rocks, I've been dying for Casey's story. You just knew there was a broken girl underneath that tough exterior and I wanted to know what her deal was. She has let young love heartache shape all of her relationships with men and it was more than a little frustrating at times. I'll admit at times I wanted to yell at her to get over it already, but when you pair what happened with her love life with what happened to her brother around the same time, I can kind of get it.

Book Review: Garrett (Cold Fury Hockey #2) by Sawyer Bennett #Giveaway

All star hockey player Garrett has a different woman, or two, in his bed every night and is quite happy to continue on like that.  No relationships for him. The only thing he will ever commit to is the game of hockey. When he first spots Quinn, his plan with her is the same as with all of the others: get her in bed for one night of incredible orgasms.

Quinn has hit a monster rough patch in her life and could use a good distraction. A good, sexy, hockey player sized distraction and Garrett fits the bill quite nicely. However, once Garrett gets a taste of her, he knows one night might not be enough. Will they sate their lust and move on or will the charming ladies man finally delve into a relationship with one woman?

I knew I was in for one hell of a ride when I hit chapter two and started sobbing uncontrollably. Garrett was a fun side character in book one, Alex, and I was looking forward to getting my hands on him. I must say he really surprised me but in all good ways. Sure he changes sexual partners more often than he changes underwear, if he is wearing any, but underneath that is a fiercely loving and loyal man. His devotion to Quinn is so sweet and swoon inducing, not to mention what he can do with his tongue and hips. Good god. I truly enjoyed their relationship, even the inevitable angst and non-communication.

Book Review: With A Twist (Last Call #4) by Sawyer Bennett

Local cop Wyatt and FBI agent Andrea are deep undercover working to bring down a Raleigh sex slave ring. One false move and the whole thing can get blown and put them both in grave danger. They are both playing their roles perfectly and will do anything to see this mission through. Anything.

I really enjoyed the crime/suspense part of the story, which is roughly the first 25% of the book. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see if they would pull this off, if they would get caught or if the bad guys would get away. And the whole time that is all going on, the attraction and sexual tension between Wyatt and Andrea is growing and growing. By the time the mission was finally over, I was ready to explode right along with them. And explode they did.

There is very little angst, if any really, and I loved that. To not have to curse at the main characters for mistakes and miscommunications was a nice change. No there is none of that, but there are a lot of steamy encounters and just an overall good time.

Book Review: Alex (Cold Fury Hockey #1) by Sawyer Bennett

Hockey star Alex Crossman might be one of the best in the game, but he despises playing hockey. He has a well earned reputation for being a prick to his teammates, fans...hell, everyone! Management is sick of his attitude and demands he gets his act in gear. So they force him to work with a local drug outreach program.

On the flip side, Sutton Price absolutely loves what she does working with at rick youth. She can relate to these kids and being able to help them is important to her. When she finds out she will be working with a sports superstar to bring more awareness, she is excited for the chance to make a bigger impact. However, she wasn't expecting the sex god that walked into her office. Or his asshole personality. Their attraction to each other is fierce, but should they cross that line?

Honestly, Alex is not an easy character to like. He doesn't just have a chip on his shoulder, he is carrying a giant boulder up there! Spending time with Sutton softens him and we get to see the vulnerability that is under the surface. I may  not have loved him, but I liked him well enough and I truly felt for him and the crap childhood he had.

Book Review: Uncivilized by Sawyer Bennett

This book right here is pure smut at its finest. A contemporary and erotic take on Tarzan meets the modern world and it had me hooked from the minute I read the blurb months ago.

Zach has spent the last 18 years living in the Amazon, left behind at the age of seven with a local tribe when his parents perished. A family friend has just discovered that he is still alive and has sent anthropologist Moira to bring him back and acclimate him to life in the United States. The problem is that Zach doesn't want to leave. He hates Moira for her role in ripping him away from his home. But there is a fine line between lust and hate and he wants nothing more than to bend Moira over and dominate her. When she offers to teach him anything he wants just as long as he gives being here a shot, Zach demands that she teach him about sex in her world. And books and the Internet aren't good enough for him; he wants hands on lessons. From her. He has made it no secret that he plans on returning to the Amazon sooner rather than later, so the trick is keeping this just physical.
