Book Review: Ink & Lies by S.L. Jennings #Giveaway

August and Fiona have been the best of friends for the past decade. While he is excellent at writing romance novels, he fails when it comes to real life romance. Because he doesn't believe in love and happily ever afters, he doesn't see what has been right in front of him for years. But when he finally opens his eyes and his heart and admits how he feels, will it be too late?

I've read all but one book that S.L. Jennings has written (it's on my list, believe me) and I continue to be blown away by this author's versatility. She's written heartbreaking and emotional (Fear Of Series), sexy and dirty (Sexual Education Series) and even paranormal romance (Dark Light Series) and all of them she has written extremely well. Ink & Lies is completely different than any of those and it is my favorite of her books to date. The hero, August, is funny, self-deprecating and a bit of a man-whore, but Jesus he's got a heart of gold underneath all of that armor.

The tone of the story was so different and I think that is largely in part to it being told from the male's point of view. I love books written this way and Ms. Jennings absolutely nailed. While I was certainly frustrated with August and Fiona and their inability to just get out of their own damn ways when it came to their relationship, it just made the inevitable that much sweeter. Though I admit I had some serious doubts about the out come here.

Book Review: Afraid to Fly (Fearless #2) by S.L. Jennings

Dominic uses women to help push back the memories of his abused childhood. A past he relives every night when he closes his eyes. The countless women help, but only momentarily, and it isn't long before the darkness invades again. Raven is the sole caretaker of her brother and is working her ass off to keep them going. And for some reason, she hates Dom. Despite her animosity towards him, Dom is drawn to Raven and he just can't stay away. Even though he knows he should, for both their sakes.

Dear God, S.L. Jennings knows how to write a story that completely captures your heart from the first word and holds you in a vise grip until the very end. Despite Dom's manwhorish ways, it is impossible not to love the man. He is just a good caring guy. He's not cold or callous to the women he is with, but it is painful watching him go from one girl to the next. He puts his heart and soul into helping other at risk kids and I admire the hell out of him for that.

Raven was a bit more vexing for me. Overall I liked her, mostly, but the unknown hate she held for Dom pissed me off. Just get over yourself already or spit out what the hell the problem is. And then when we do find out, I kind of wanted to punch her. But together, Dom and Raven are good for each other and I wanted to see them both push past their demons and find some happy. This was a heart wrenching and emotional read that enjoyed from start to finish.

Book Review: Dark Light (Dark Light #1) by S.L. Jennings

Gabriela has just turned 20 and been completely shocked by her adoptive parents. Surprise! You're magical! She certainly didn't see that one coming. Already struggling with herself and what she wants to do with her life; this new knowledge confuses her even more. Armed with her birth mother's journal she starts to discover more about what happened to her parents, what exactly they were and what she is destined to be. While it starts to answer some questions, it also leaves her with even more. Then she meets sexy as hell Dorian and he is the only thing in her life that seems right. She needs him like she needs air to breathe. Sometimes it appears he feels the same way. But there's something more to Dorian and although she senses it, she chooses to ignore it. For now. He makes her feel safe and loved but is he just luring her into a false sense of security?

So I finally ventured out of my typical comfort zone for the second time and started another paranormal romance series, and I loved every damn minute of it! There are no vampires or werewolves here as those are not my cup of tea. In this world there are magical beings, some of the Light and others the Dark. What is unique about Gabriella is she doesn't have a "side" and she must choose one by her 21st birthday. This has Dark beings looking for her, wary of what she will choose and how powerful she is destined to be. Her inner turmoil while she navigates life with this new information is real and easy to relate to you. I mean if I just found out that I had supernatural powers, then yeah, I'd be a mess. At this early point, she is torn between the two sides. And her conflicting thoughts over the two men in her life, Jared and Dorian, mirrors that.

Book Review: Taint (Sex Education #1) by S.L. Jennings

Justice Drake runs an exclusive sex therapy spa for high society women. These women are all here for one reason: to try and regrab the attention of their philandering husbands. And Justice is going to teach them how to do that with sex. Justice loves his job. Loves making the rich, uptight bitches uncomfortable. Loves breaking them down to unleash their inner sex kittens. While he also loves sex, he remains cold and aloof towards the women that learn form him at Oasis. He knows better than to dabble where he works. Except something feels different about this latest group. And that difference is Allison.

Allison has been married to Evan Carr for 5 years and he has been unfaithful the entire time. And she knows it. Hell, the entire world knows it. Now her cheating husband has sent her to Oasis to learn how to fuck. Yeah, he's awesome, isn't he? Justice is drawn to her like sunshine and no matter how hard he tries, and he does try, he can't stay away. He knows he can't have her, not forever anyway, because when her time with him is over, she will go back to her husband, Cheating jerk or not.

To say that I have been anxiously waiting for the release of Taint is a gross understatement. From the minute the cover and blurb were releases I've been dying to get my hands on it! So when release day finally arrived, I put my kids on the bus and dove right in. And yes, I totally had cover model Mike Thurston's Instagram page up on my iPad while I read this. I admit it. I have no shame.
